Nytt fotbollslag i Kuala Lumpur
KUALA LUMPUR: Being inspired by the childhood he has had, former footballer Wan Erwis Siregar has started his own football academy.
As a young boy, the Malaysian born Erwis attended School Leagues Singapore with dreams of becoming a professional footballer.
"Since I managed to make those dreams of mine a reality I want to be able to give children the same opportunities I had," said Erwis, who launched the 1st International Soccer Academy (FISA) yesterday at Garden International School Kuala Lumpur.
The initial target group for Fisa are the international schools' students aged 13-18.
Erwis hopes to be able to offer a local set-up for the not so fortunate some time soon.
The former Kedah player also compared his academy to other established private academies in Malaysia.
Being the only academy to be set-up by a local footballer, Erwis is confident that he will be able to manage it smoothly.
"I am not running this as a business entity. No doubt the parents of these children pay a certain amount of money but I want to be able to give them value.
"I want them (the children) to be disciplined and progress as footballers," he added.
A quick look at their training session yesterday showcased the discipline of the children.
Even without their coach, they started warming up and doing short drills.
This sort of discipline is even lacking in some amateur football teams.
Erwis plans to send his players for trials at local clubs once they are ready and also introduced the development programme that is in store for the children.
There will be a boot camp conducted by public motivator Nazril Idrus in March.
"This is not only to improve themselves as footballers but also to give them a feel of being a professional footballer and improve their daily lives," said Nazril.
Kul för hela familjen att få vara med om detta!
